What the Buddha Taught
With Lama Tsultrim Allione, Amelia Hall PhD and Lopön Karla Jackson-Brewer MS
March 21 - April 18, 2025
Course Two of the five-course series, The Heart of Buddhism: A Year Long Buddhist Studies Program with Lama Tsultrim Allione and guest teachers.
The Buddhist Path
The Buddhist path offers profound guidance for working with the individual and collective challenges we face — and transforming suffering into liberation. These teachings show us how we can each become a light in the darkness, embodying the luminous spaciousness that is the heart-essence of who we are.
Learn the core teachings of Buddhism, and consider how the Buddha’s insights into suffering and liberation speak directly to our modern experience. Together, we’ll delve into the essence of the Eightfold Path: the Buddha’s step by step instructions for liberating ourselves from suffering. Students will explore the meaning of “taking refuge” in the three jewels, and will have the option to formally enter the Buddhist path by taking the Refuge Vow.
What You’ll Experience in Course Two
- Learn how the Four Noble Truths address contemporary suffering
- Discover the Eightfold Path as an ethical framework for everyday life
- Explore the principles of karma and interdependence
- Experience how meditation reveals innate wisdom
- Optional: Take the refuge vow to formally embark upon the Buddhist path
