Lama Tsultrim guides us through a meditation on Green Tara.
Green Tara, the female Buddha, is one of the most popular meditative deities in Tibetan Buddhism. Known for providing protection from fears and obstacles, she sits with one foot in the meditative posture and one foot in the world, embodying active compassion and serving as a model for modern day contemplative life. During the Green Tara retreat on June 21-24 we will learn the Green Tara practice from the Luminous Secret Vajra Treasury, a treasure cycle of Adzom Drukpa.
In this Video, Lama Tsultrim guides us on a “meeting” with Green Tara. This forms the basic visualization that will be taught at the Green Tara retreat.
“Tara, at one time a minor Tantric deity, gradually emerged into a Buddha in her own right as she grew into a popular and widely practiced deity in the Tantric tradition. This particular Green Tara practice comes from Adzom Drukpa Pawo Dorje and to us through Adzom Rinpoche. Adzom is also the name of a famous monastery in eastern Tibet that emerged with the coming of Adzom Drukpa, a great Dzogchen master. He was also a tertön, a treasure revealer. He revealed some ancient teachings that had been hidden, and his main cycle of revealed teachings is called the Luminous Secret Vajra Treasury or the Ösel Dorje Sang Dzö in Tibetan. This Tara practice comes from that. It is an Anuyoga teaching, which means it is right before Dzogchen or Ati, according to the levels of the nine yanas.” ~ Lama Tsultrim Allione, from the Green Tara Commentary.
