Chandra Easton

In 1996, Chandra’s strong interest in Buddhism led her to Dharamsala, India, where she studied Buddhist philosophy, meditation and Tibetan language at the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, founded by H.H. the Dalai Lama. Later, she received her degree in Religious Studies at UC Santa Barbara where she focused on Buddhist Studies and translated Tibetan Buddhist texts on meditation with B. Alan Wallace. She also had the good fortune of studying Tibetan language with Ngawang Thondup Narkyid, a Tibetan elder and an official biographer for H.H. Dalai Lama. While at UCSB, she taught Tibetan language, as well as, supervised the cataloging of the Tibetan Buddhist Canon for Davidson Library. 

 

Chandra has studied the Sutrayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana teachings with many qualified teachers both at the scholastic and practice levels. Her primary studies have been in the Tibetan Vajrayana teachings. Starting with taking refuge with H.H. 16th Karmapa when she was five years old, she continued to receive teachings and empowerments from authentic teachers such as H.H. Dalai Lama, Kusum Lingpa, Hungkar Dorje Rinpoche, Khenpo Wangchuk Sonam, Gyatrul Rinpoche, Adzom Paylo Rinpoche, Lama Wangdu, Lama Tsultrim Allione, and Lama Pema Dorje. She has also studied with the Vietnamese Mahayana teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh. She completed the Longchen Nyingthik Ngondro in 2003 and continues to cultivate her own practice.

 

Chandra has been teaching Buddhism and Hatha Yoga since 2001 and is  authorized by Lama Tsultrim Allione to teach Prajna Paramita meditation, Chöd, Feeding Your Demons, and the Tara Mandala Sutrayana course. She is also on the faculty of the Insight Yoga Institute. She lives in Berkeley, CA with her family.
