Capital Campaign

Consider being a part of this exciting phase of founding Tara Mandala. See the Gift Mandala displayed with donations given and categories that we need help to fill in order to complete the mandala.

The Capital Campaign raises funds for the infrastructure and buildings that allows Tara Mandala to become a year-round retreat center, a repository for wisdom literature, a center for translation, and a model for ecological development. We work in harmony with the land to recognize and reawaken the sacred in our lives and in our world.

The 1000 Tara Campaign Fundraising Campaign

Tara Mandala recently received a beautiful gift of a tangkha (Tibetan scroll painting) of 1000 Green Taras. Ken and Petra Sloan bought the tangkha in Germany at a museum show from the artist, Karsang Lama, and realized it was destined for Tara Mandala. Along with the tangkha came a black and white drawing showing the placement of the Taras on the tangkha. At the time of making it, the Nepali artist didn’t know why he had made the drawing. Then we realized that in the numbered spaces on the drawing we could put people’s names. So we started a 1000 Tara campaign to accompany the 1000 Buddha campaign.

Each small Tara can be sponsored for $1000 to help our Temple Fund.

People are having fun choosing numbers from 1-999 signifying significant dates like the birthdays of their children, parents, pets or magical numbers, and already 35 Taras have been sponsored this summer. There are still plenty of numbers left to choose from. (see below)

You can sponsor a Tara on several payment plans: a one-time donation of $1000; two donations in a year of $500 each; $83.33 a month for a year; or $41.67 a month over two years. You can chose a number and we will write in your name on the drawing. The big Tara at the center will be a $50,000 donation, so that is also an option which could be done in your name or in the name of someone else.

Temple and Residence Building

The Temple was named ‘Secret Treasury Temple’ by Adzom Rinpoche. The design, which came to Tsultrim in a dream, is a three-dimensional mandala with three eight-sided levels, each smaller than the last. The first level, representing the Nirmanakaya, the Enlightened Body, is used for large teachings and ceremonies. It has  doors in the four directions and contain life-size statues of the twenty-one Taras, female Buddhas of compassion. The second level, representing the Sambhogakaya, Enlightened Speech, will hold the library and rooms for translation and teacher-student dialogue. The third level, representing the Dharmakaya, Enlightened Mind, is used for smaller gatherings. Balconies all around Levels 2 and 3  offer wonderful views and circumambulation paths.

The Residence Building offers comfortable and accessible housing for retreatants who, until recently, have camped on the land. A total of thirty-two rooms, each with its own sink, provides comfortable housing. Bathrooms with toilets, showers, soaking tubs are available.

In September, 2007 we broke ground for the Temple, and performed numerous ceremonies in preparation for the construction.

Thank you to everyone who is helping to Manifest the Mandala!
