Join us for an inspiring evening on Saturday, July 8, with Grammy-nominated Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai in the Tara Mandala Temple, with Tibetan flutist and longtime collaborator, Nawang Khechog.
R. Carlos Nakai is the premier performer of the traditional Native American flute, with over 1 million copies sold of his platinum album Canyon Trilogy. His firm footing in traditional music is complemented with the seamless integration of new age, world-beat, jazz, and classical musical elements, producing a sound that, according to one critic, “single-handedly raised the music world’s consciousness….”
R. Carlos Nakai will be joined by Tibetan flutist Nawang Khechog, the first ever Tibetan Grammy-nominee. Nawang was a monk for 11 years and studied Buddhist philosophy and meditation with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and many other Tibetan masters. He also lived as hermit, meditating in the Himalayan foothills for several years under the guidance of His Holiness. R. Carlos Nakai and Nawang Khechog have collaborated on several albums together, creating a beautiful blend of ancient woodwind inflected soundscapes.
Tickets are $40 and can be purchased by clicking on the register now button above, or at Southwest Sound (970) 259-5896 in Durango, or Higher Grounds Coffee (970) 731-3666 in Pagosa Springs.
